Welcome Back!
After a short summer hiatus, the CTOA newsletter is back in full swing and ready for a busy fall season. Over the coming months, we’ll be embarking on a strategic planning exercise to determine our priorities for 2026. This process will ensure our focus continues to reflect the real needs and issues of Canada’s trucking community, from drivers and carriers to suppliers and partners across the industry.
We look forward to hearing from you and working together to shape the future priorities of the association.

Safety at the Forefront
Recent months have brought renewed attention to safety in the trucking industry following a series of high-profile accidents in both the U.S. and Canada. These tragedies remind us of the critical importance of training, compliance, and oversight to protect drivers and the public.
Adding to these concerns, U.S. regulators recently suspended hundreds of commercial driver’s licences connected to fraudulent documentation. While these actions were south of the border, they raise urgent questions about the integrity of licensing systems, and the risks of unqualified operators entering the industry.
The CTOA will continue to push for stronger, fair, and transparent safety standards in Ontario and across Canada. We are committed to supporting our members with the tools, resources, and advocacy needed to make safety a non-negotiable priority.
Trade War Update
The ongoing trade tensions between Canada and the United States are beginning to weigh heavily on the trucking industry. Tariff escalations and retaliatory measures have disrupted cross-border freight flows, creating uncertainty for carriers and shippers alike.
So far, members have reported:
Increased costs as duties are passed down supply chains
Delays at the border as inspection protocols tighten
Reduced volumes in certain sectors directly hit by tariffs
CTOA continues to engage with government officials and industry partners to ensure trucking voices are heard in trade discussions.
Our focus is on minimizing disruptions, protecting Canadian carriers, and ensuring that trucking companies remain competitive in this challenging environment.
